Mountain Bike Single-Track

Distance: 25 Kms.444

Rating: Intermediate to Difficult.

Trail-head and Finish Line: Ha’ro’a Campsite

Starting Point: Club Ramon Spa Hotel, Mizpe Ramon.

This single-track on ancient desert routes is an exciting and challenging experience. Start off at Ha’ro’a Campsite opposite the petrol station at Sde Boker. From the campsite, ride southward on the dirt road running along road 40. Pass the water reservoir opposite the university campus at Midreshet Sde Boker. Turn right into the wadi: this is the beginning of the single-track.

Climb the track up the ridge and descend to an ancient farm site. Cross the ravine and climb a second ridge. Turn left on a dirt road and then right to Wadi Ha’ro’a. Cross the track running in the Wadi and ride to the main road. Cross the road and ride north-east to the Petroleum Road track. Turn right; after a further 150 Mts. turn left onto a dirt road. Follow the signs directing to “Nahal Etz”, formally known as Noked Wadi. Ride to the very large and old Acacia tree, which had already appeared on maps of the early 20th century.

From the Acacia, climb the ridge to the observation point overlooking the Sde Boker Basin. Descend to the ruins of “Hurvat Halukim”, dating from the 10 Century B.C. Ride on to the road, cross it and continue east. After 2 kms., turn right and ride up-wadi on the Ro’a Dam, with the settlement of Merhavam on your left. Turn right toward Katum Mt. to the red trail. Ride on until the trail changes to become a blue trail, and up to the top of the Tzin Ascent. Turn right with the black trail, at the junction turn right again, and after 300 Mts. turn left to the petrol station and Ha’ro’a Campsite.
