The track begins on road 204 from Sde Boker to Yeruham, 4 Kms. northeast of Halukim Junction, at the red sign indicating the “Ro’a Dam”.

The dam was built in the early 1950’s by Yehoshua Cohen – a member of Kibbutz Sde Boker, David Ben Gurion’s bodyguard and eventually his close friend. Passing the dam, continue toward Nahal Hatzatz and its waterholes, which fill up with water after each desert flash-flood. Follow the black trail onto the Hatira ridge to Tzror Mt. which affords a fantastic view of the entire Tzinn valley. Near Tzror Mt. there is a feeding station for vultures, which are again nesting here after an absence of over ten years. It is often possible to observe these large scavenging birds from the blue trail, which goes around Tzror Mt. to the top of Tzinn Ascent. Here, there is a Byzantine Bastion which has been excavated by the Antiquities Authority in cooperation with the Nature Reserve Authority and the guides at the Sde Boker field school.

From the top of the Ascent, descend carefully into the Tzinn valley along the Petroleum Road, riding 7 Kms. to the “Tanks Junction” – identified by two large tanks by the track. Continue ahead to the turn left on the green trail, and proceed to Ein Shaviv, easily identified by the green trees that survive thanks to the waters of this spring. Reposing here, we can visit Ein Shaviv as well as another spring, Ein Ziq.

Returning to “Tanks Junction”, continue riding on the red trail onto the Nahal Tzinn railway bridge.  The track re-crosses the wadi, at the spot where it transforms into a canyon called “the white canyon” by the locals. After flash-floods, the water-holes in the canyon are filled with water.

Continue on the blue trail for about 15 Kms. through the mining areas of Oron-Tzinn, along Tzinn Mt., known also as Hor Ha’har. Ein Tzinn, with its palms, is an appropriate end to this track. Note well – the water is contaminated and unfit for either drinking or swimming. After a rest, go to the main road (road 90) at Moshav Idan.

Return to rest at the Club Ramon Spa Hotel.
